Going through old computer files earlier today, I came across this early character concept art. When I decided I wanted to start a webcomic, I started designing characters and came up with these. I liked them but I wanted my characters to have a unique look so these got shelved away. Besides the main character (the guy in the gray vest) this is the only drawing I ever made of these characters. Quite different than what I ended up creating, but there are a few similarities to the current characters.

The comic below is how it all started. It’s actually the second comic I ever made (I couldn’t find the original, but if I do, I’ll post it here) in the “Chad Hates Dillon Thomson” series I created while attending University. Way back in 2006, my buddy, Dillon Thomson, stole a dollar from me that had fallen out of my pocket, then used the dollar to buy a soda. I drew a comic of Stick-Figure-Me pushing Stick-Figure-Dillon down a flight of stairs, in retaliation for taking my dollar. From there it blossomed into a series of comics that didn’t make sense, other than my character finding different ways of torturing/humiliating/dismembering Dillon.

After a dozen or so stick figure comics I decided to upgrade the look of the characters of Chad and Dillon (more or less because Dillon wanted them to look like us) and below is a random comic from that series.

I eventually got sick of the look of the updated characters and missed the simplicity of the stick figures. So I killed them off and brought back an updated version of the stick figures.

After awhile, I decided to recreate my characters and the below comic is what I came up with. This is one of the few times Chad and Dillon worked together instead of Chad playing some sort of violent prank on Dillon.

Below is a random drawing I came across. It’s a rough pencil sketch that I never finished and it never got posted online. It looks like I was, once again, changing the design of the characters. This is the only drawing I have that the Chad and Dillon characters look like this, and to be honest, I don’t remember drawing this.

Lastly, this is another piece of the characters evolving. This is a one and only rough sketch I have of the characters looking like this. By this point and time I wasn’t drawing the Chad Hates Dillon comics anymore. I had moved on to other things and it was about a year before I started drawing any type of comics again.
